Dr. Amber Testa, PsyD

Dr. Amber Testa is a licensed clinical psychologist with over 18 years of experience working with adolescents and adults in outpatient and inpatient settings. In addition to psychotherapy, she has experience conducting comprehensive psychological evaluations to assess for specific symptomatology and come to diagnostic and treatment recommendations.

 

Dr. Testa received her Doctorate of Clinical Psychology from La Salle University in Philadelphia, PA. With a focus on health and

neuropsychology, she trained at Temple University Hospital- Episcopal Hospital Campus, University of Pennsylvania The Center for Cognitive Therapy and La Salle University Community Center for Counseling. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at Hudson River Psychiatric Hospital in New York’s Hudson Valley. Upon receiving her doctorate she began work at a maximum security prison, where there were new state initiatives and opportunity to be part of program development to bolster mental health services in incarcerated settings. While providing individual and group therapy, crisis intervention and comprehensive psychological assessments, she advanced to the role of Regional Supervisor. She then pivoted back to her health and neuropsychology roots to work in medical settings with people with newly acquired and chronic medical conditions that significantly impact functioning.

 

Since that time Dr. Testa has relocated to Brooklyn, NY where she strives to maintain a balance between her private practice while continuing to assume roles working with diverse populations in the community, including the underserved. She specializes in online care that offers a safe space and provides services and support for those working to build self-esteem, reduce anxiety and depression, strengthen coping skills and improve their relationships. 

 

Dr. Testa’s clinical orientation is behavioral, granting her experience in ACT, CBT, DBT, and other evidence- based interventions.

Psychological Assessment 

The primary goal of psychological assessment is to appropriately diagnose and understand a presenting concern and the persons strengths and weaknesses to make appropriate treatment recommendations. Dr. Testa uses a combination of norm-referenced tests, interviews, observations, and informal tests/surveys to construct a comprehensive picture of the persons functioning.
